For millions of families across the country, caregiving is a daily balancing act. Now, a Brooklyn-based company is launching a service that could help ease the burden. Eve Communications has developed a new AI-powered device designed to provide companionship and critical support for seniors, while also keeping caregivers informed and connected.
Launching on December 1, the service is simple but innovative. Eve makes scheduled calls to seniors, asking personalized questions that you can select or create — like how they slept, whether they’ve taken their medication, whether they have had a drink today or eaten. The answers are then sent as text updates to caregivers, so even the hard-working military children and families can know others are ok.
“This is the kind of support families need,” said Ivan Wicksteed, Founder and CEO of Eve Communications. “Caregivers do so much, and it’s overwhelming. We want to give them a tool that helps them take a breath while still ensuring their loved ones are safe and cared for.”
The company has a SaaS model – software as a service – which requires almost no setup. There is a form to fill out and Eve takes care of the rest. Setup is a breeze and can be done remotely by anyone in the position of caregiving.
As the nation recognizes Family Caregivers Month, the launch of Eve’s service feels especially timely. Caregiving is often described as one of the most challenging and underappreciated roles, with caregivers balancing full-time jobs and family obligations on top of looking after aging relatives.
The stress of caregiving is a reality Mike Johnson knows all too well. As the primary caregiver for his father, who lives with early-onset dementia, Johnson says the constant worry is exhausting. Imagine coupling that with active duty.
“Some days, I feel like I’m running on empty,” she said. “A service like this would be a huge relief. Just knowing someone—or something—is there to check in with him would take such a weight off my shoulders.”
At just $30 a month, Eve provides an affordable alternative to hiring round-the-clock care, which can cost thousands. Families can set up custom call schedules and adjust the conversation and/or questions to meet the specific needs of their loved ones.
Loneliness among seniors is more than just an emotional issue—it’s a public health crisis. Recent studies equate the effects of chronic loneliness to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Eve’s design helps alleviate that isolation by offering consistent interaction and companionship.
The service is also designed to promote cognitive health. Regular conversations with Eve encourage memory recall and mental engagement, which research shows can slow cognitive decline in older adults.
“For someone with dementia, Eve can provide consistency and familiarity, even mimicking the voice of someone they recognize,” Wicksteed explained. “It’s about more than care—it’s about dignity and quality of life.”
As Eve Communications prepares for its U.S. launch next week, the company is already planning its next steps, including expanding internationally. The AI behind Eve is multilingual, making it accessible to a global audience.
“This is just the beginning,” Wicksteed said. “We’re not just building a product—we’re building a connection for people who need it most.”
For caregivers like Johnson, Eve offers something invaluable: peace of mind.
“Knowing my dad would have someone to talk to—even if it’s just for a few minutes—makes me feel like I’m not doing this alone,” he said.
